Storage: NVMe and SATA SSD

Which Cloud VPS locations use NVMe and which use SATA SSD.

In short

NVMe is a fast type of SSD storage. ClientVPS Cloud VPS plans use NVMe in …, and SATA SSDs in the other locations. Each plan card says which one the plan has.

NVMe and SATA SSD

Both are solid-state drives with no moving parts. NVMe connects over PCIe with many parallel queues, so it handles many small reads and writes at once with lower latency; SATA SSDs use an older interface. NVMe helps databases, online shops and build jobs; for many websites a SATA SSD is fast enough.

What it does not mean

  • Not every plan in an NVMe country is NVMe: some plans there use SATA SSD, so check the plan's disk line.
  • Not a backup: data on a server's disk is not backed up unless the plan includes a backup service.

Not to be confused with

SSD
Solid-state drive. NVMe drives and SATA SSDs are both SSDs; the difference is how they connect.
