Moving a domain to ClientVPS
A transfer moves the management of a domain you already own from your current registrar to ClientVPS. You stay the owner, the domain keeps its name, and your website and e-mail keep working as long as the DNS stays the same.
For .com, .net, .org and the other generic extensions, the transfer includes a one-year renewal that is added to your current expiry date, so you do not lose the time you already paid for. Country extensions follow their registry's own transfer rules.
Before you start
- The domain is unlocked at your current registrar (transfer lock off).
- You have the transfer code, also called the EPP or authorization code.
- At least 60 days have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred (the rule for generic extensions).
- The domain has not expired; renew it first if it is close to its expiry date.
- You can read the e-mail of the domain's contact, in case your current registrar asks you to confirm.
How the transfer works
- 1
Unlock and get the code
In your current registrar's panel, turn off the transfer lock and request the EPP code.
- 2
Start it here
Enter the domain and the code, check the owner's details and choose how many years to add.
- 3
Pay the invoice
Pay with crypto or your balance. We send the transfer to the registry once the invoice is paid.
- 4
Approve and wait
Approve the e-mail from your current registrar if one arrives. Generic extensions usually finish within 5 to 7 days.
Domain transfer FAQ
How long does a transfer take?
For generic extensions such as .com, usually 5 to 7 days, or sooner if you approve the confirmation e-mail from your current registrar. Country extensions vary by registry.
Will my website or e-mail stop working?
No, as long as the DNS stays the same. Keep your current nameservers in the form, or make sure the new ones have the same records before you switch.
What does a transfer cost?
The transfer price of the extension, shown when you check the domain. For generic extensions it includes one year that is added to your current expiry date.
Why can a transfer be refused?
Most often because the domain is still locked, the code is wrong or expired, fewer than 60 days have passed since registration or the last transfer, or the domain has expired.
Can I transfer a country extension such as .ch or .is?
Yes, for the extensions we sell. Each registry sets its own process: some only need the transfer code, and the term added can differ from generic extensions.
Can I keep WHOIS privacy after the transfer?
Yes. Add ID Protection to the transfer order ($4.50 a year) and your details stay out of the public WHOIS.
